Nerve Test / EMG

This is a specialized electrical test used in neurology to evaluate the nerves and muscles. This is a two part test which is done in the comfort of our own office. First, small electrical stimulations are given to test how well the nerves conduct impulses. Second, a small electrode is inserted into several muscles to see if the muscles are functioning properly and are communicating well with the nerves. This test is used to identify many neurological conditions such as neuropathy, muscle disease, myasthenia gravis, ALS, carpal tunnel syndrome, and pinched nerves in the neck or back.

We offer several simple in-office procedures including trigger point injections, occipital nerve blocks and trigeminal nerve blocks. These can be used for the treatment of migraine headaches, tension headaches and muscle spasm in the neck or back. A small needle is used to inject numbing medication often combined with an anti-inflammatory medication. The injections are very quick and minimally painful.

This is a specialized neurodiagnostic test used to evaluate your active brainwaves. This test is used to look for seizures and other brainwave pattern changes seen in many neurological conditions. Little metal electrodes will be glued to your scalp and then you will lie down and rest while your brainwaves are being recorded. Your hair will have glue in it after the test, but this washes out with lots of warm water and regular shampoo. Some people experience minor skin irritation from the electrodes, and this can be managed with topical hydrocortisone cream and cold compresses.

SmartSKAN is a new device which provides an accurate evaluation of sweat gland function. Measurement is based on an electrochemical reaction between electrodes and chloride of the sweat glands after being stimulated (by low-level voltage). This is a powerful tool to detect abnormalities in sympathetic nerves which can be involved in many diseases including neuropathy, dysautonomia and many more. This is an exciting new diagnostic tool that takes just minutes to perform in the office.

We offer therapy services for the treatment of headache, neck pain, back pain and other neurological conditions. Therapy services include multiple modalities including: therapeutic massage, myofascial release, neuromuscular rehab, hot/cold therapy, electrical stimulation, range of motion, strengthening, and gait training.
